For those of you that haven’t heard of it yet, Instagram is one of the easiest and most popular way of sharing your snapshots with others. As great a service as Instagram is, the makers of Instamatch are out to squeeze some extra enjoyment from it. Instamatch’s concept is a simple one- it’s a digital version of the classic game Concentration. Your chosen difficulty level sets how many photo or image tiles are laid face down in a grid pattern. You and up to three other players take turns trying to match two of the hidden images. Unlike the traditional game Instamatch loads it’s image tiles from Instagram; the images are either loaded randomly from the over 150 million publicly available photos or you can log into and use your own account. While you don’t need an Instagram account to play, you do need internet access in order to load the images from Instagram’s servers. You can search Instagram’s servers for particular images and create a particular set.
The interface is clean and simple, and we picked up on the game almost immediately. Some of the random images loaded were outstanding photos, and as a bonus Instamatch provides the ability to browse and ‘like’ photos that stand out. While the game can be enjoyed by anyone, it is particularly suitable for younger children. Bear in mind that some random photos could be unsuitable for very young players (the iTunes listing for the game warns of the possibility of inappropriate subject matter or themes in some images); we suggest that a responsible adult create a photo set for little ones.
If you’re looking for an app to pass time on long car rides, an easy to play game, or just want to enjoy Instagram a little more give Instamatch a try. It’s available now via the iTunes app store.
