Apple’s current CEO and President, Tim Cook, recently disclosed some interesting numbers during today’s Apple earnings call.

According to the report, Apple managed to sell 1.4 million Apple TV set-top boxes during the first quarter of 2012. And since the launch of this new gen Apple TV product, the company has sold 2.8 million boxes in total. These results definitely show that the demand for an Apple TV product is bigger than expected.

The current version of the Apple TV first debuted at the beginning of last quarter, so this would mean that in total Apple has sold about 4.2 million 2nd gen Apple TV’s all together! This is an amazing feat if you take the time and consider how much of a flop the Google set-top-box has been. But nonetheless, these Apple TV sales still don’t make a dent in Apple’s total income, especially considering how many iPad and iPhone devices the Cupertino company sells every month.

When asked about the future of the Apple TV, CEO Tim Cook had this to say, “We continue to add things to it, and I don’t know about you but I couldn’t live without it. We continue to pull the strings and see where it takes us.”
